Water damage is divided into 3 categories.

Water is one of the most common causes of damage that can occur in a commercial or residential building. According to the Standard for Professional Water Damage Restoration (IICRC) water is divided into 3 categories due to the “range of contamination in the water, considering both its source of origin and its quality after coming into contact with the materials present at the site of job".

The categories of water damage are:

• Category 1 water damage: Sanitary “Clean Water”
• Category 2 water damage: Significantly contaminated “Grey water”
• Category 3 water damage: heavily polluted “Black water”
